in this knocked-out fantasy

threw my thoughts in disarray
I left desert-bound
and feeling changed

the scene was like a postcard
as we moved across the land
standing dark against the canyon
shadows bent across the sand
home was like a cut-out
in some re-enactment play

were painted strange
